Add an exclusion to Windows Security


To check if Windows Defender is blocking SigmaXLIf Windows Security has incorrectly flagged SigmaXL as untrusted, SigmaXL can be added to Microsoft Defender's exclusions list. 

The most common symptom of SigmaXL being blocked by security software is the following error:

Note that you must be a system administrator to complete the steps below.

Select you version of Windows below:

Click Start Image Removed > Settings Image Removed.
Click Privacy & security Image Removed:

  2. Scroll down and click Image RemovedImage Added Update & Security:



  3. Click (1)  Windows Security > (2) Image RemovedImage Added Virus & threat protection:

If Windows Security has incorrectly flagged SigmaXL as untrusted, you can prevent it from blocking it by adding the folder to the exclusions list. 

  1. Image Added


  2. Under Image Added Virus & threat protection settings, select Manage settings:

  3. Scroll down to Exclusions and click Add or remove exclusions:

  4. Click (1) + Add an exclusion, and select (2) Folder:

  5. Navigate to the SigmaXL folder for your installed bit-version, (1) single-click the folder to highlight it, and click the (2) Select Folder button:

    For 32-bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\SigmaXL:

    Image Added

    For 64-bit: C:\Program Files\SigmaXL:

    Image Added

  6. SigmaXL is now being excluded from Windows Defender.

  8. Under Image Added Virus & threat protection settings, select select Manage settings:
    Under Exclusions, select

  9. Scroll down to Exclusions and select Add or remove exclusions:Select

  10. Click (1) + Add an exclusion, Exclusion and then select from files, folders, file types, or process. A folder exclusion will apply to all subfolders within the folder as well select (2) Folder:

  11. Navigate to the SigmaXL folder for your installed bit-version, (1) single-click the folder to highlight it, and click the (2) Select Folder button:

    For 32-bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\SigmaXL:

    For 64-bit: C:\Program Files\SigmaXL:

  12. SigmaXL is now being excluded from Windows Defender.
