SigmaXL Version 8.1 - "Error 2343: Specified path is empty" when attempting to install SigmaXL



 This error typically occurs when Microsoft Office is installed in a non-standard directory. An example of this would be if Office was downloaded and installed directly from the Microsoft Store. To resolve this issue, ensure you have administrator privileges and complete the steps listed below:

Select your installed version of Office:


Important Note

The bit version of Office is often different than the bit version of Windows. The installation of SigmaXL is dependent on the bit version of OfficeClick here to determine which bit version of Office is installed.


 32 bit version of Microsoft Office


Microsoft Office (32 bit)


  1. Follow the link below to download the SigmaXL zip archive:

  2. Navigate to the location where you downloaded the file (typically located in Downloads), right click the zip file and select "Properties":



  3. In the General tab, click "Unblock" to place a check in the empty checkbox as shown, then click OK:



  4. Back in the folder where the SigmaXL zip was downloaded, right click the file and click "Extract All...":



  5. In the Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders window, enter "C:\Program Files (x86)without quotes and click "Extract". Alternatively, click "Browse..." to manually navigate to select the C:\Program Files (x86) directory:



  6. Click "Continue" to provide administrator permission:



  7. Download the SigmaXL DLL zip archive for 32 bit Office.

  8. Once the download completes, navigate to the location where you downloaded the file (typically located in Downloads), right click the zip file and select "Properties":



  9. In the General tab, click "Unblock" to place a check in the empty checkbox as shown, then click OK:



  10. In the folder where the file SigmaXL_32-bit_dlls.zip was downloaded, right click the file and select "Extract All...":



  11. The Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders wizard will appear. Click Browse...:



  12. Navigate to "C:\Windows\System32" and click Select Folder:



  13. Click "Extract":



  14. Click "Continue" to provide administrator permission:



    32-bit Windows

    Modern installations of Windows are typically in 64 bit. If your installation of Windows is 32 bit, you may skip to the end of this article. Click here to determine which version of Windows is installed.


  15. Go back to the location where SigmaXL_32-bit_dlls.zip was downloaded (typically Downloads). Right click the file and select "Extract All...":



  16. Click "Browse...":



  17. Navigate to "C:\Windows\SysWOW64" and click "Select Folder":



  18. Click "Extract":



  19. Click "Continue" to provide administrator permission:


 64 bit version of Microsoft Office

  1. Follow the link below to download the SigmaXL zip archive:

  2. Navigate to the location where you downloaded the file (typically located in Downloads), right click the zip file and select "Properties":



  3. In the General tab, click "Unblock" to place a check in the empty checkbox as shown, then click "OK":



  4. Right click the SigmaXL.zip file and click "Extract All..."



  5. In the Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders window, enter "C:\Program Fileswithout quotes and click "Extract". Alternatively, click "Browse..." to manually navigate to select the C:\Program Files directory:



  6. Click "Continue" to provide administrator permission:



  7. Download the SigmaXL DLL zip archive for 64 bit Office.

  8. Once the download completes, navigate to the location where you downloaded the file (typically located in Downloads), right click the zip file and select "Properties":



  9. In the General tab, click "Unblock" to place a check in the empty checkbox as shown, then click OK:



  10. Right click the SigmaXL_64-bit_dlls.zip file and select "Extract All...":



  11. Click "Browse...":



  12. Navigate to "C:\Windows\System32" and click "Select Folder":



  13. Click "Extract":



  14. Click "Continue" to provide administrator permission:


  15. Go back to the location where SigmaXL_32-bit_dlls.zip was downloaded (typically Downloads). Right click the file and select "Extract All...":



  16. Click "Browse...":



  17. Navigate to "C:\Windows\SysWOW64" and click "Select Folder":



  18. Click "Extract":



  19. Click "Continue" to provide administrator permission:



Close any open windows and attempt to launch SigmaXL using Excel's File > Open. Click here for instructions.
