Excel for Mac is Crashing when Attempting to use SigmaXL



The following message may occur:

If you are able to do so, upgrade to macOS Sonoma Version 14.3 to resolve this issue, as the bug was addressed in this OS update.

If you are unable to upgrade macOS, please do the following (In this order):

IMPORTANT

Ensure you have admin rights, and have your Microsoft 365 username and password ready before completing the steps in this article!

  1. Completely trash Microsoft 365

  2. Completely remove SigmaXL

  3. Remove SigmaXL’s remaining hidden components

  4. Download and install Microsoft 365 version 16.61 to roll back to Microsoft 365 version 16.61 for Mac. (Note that you will need to sign back in using your Microsoft account information after this task is completed)

  5. Download and install SigmaXL (Installation instructions can be found here)

Note that the Microsoft Update utility will display notifications that updates are available. Ignore these as it is important that updates are not installed until Microsoft addresses this issue. 

Also ensure that Microsoft AutoUpdate is not configured to automatically download and install updates. Open Excel and click Help > Check for Updates to launch AutoUpdate, and uncheck Automatically keep Microsoft apps up to date:
