Create a Homer Simpson regression residuals plot
Fun with Regression
In order to complete these steps, you will need to download this data set from "Residual Sur(Realism)'' by Leonard A. Stefanski, (2007, TAS, Vol. 61, pp 163-177).
If you don't have SigmaXL, you can download the free 30 day trial here.
- Open SigmaXL and load the dataset:
- Click the SigmaXL tab:
- Click (1) Statistical Tools (2) Regression > (3) Multiple Regression:
- Ensure Use Data Labels and Use Entire Data Table options are checked:
- Select y from the options on the left hand side. Click Numeric Response (Y) >>:
- (1) While holding down the shift key on your keyboard, select x1 and x4. (2) Click Continuous Predictors (X) >>:
- Uncheck Fit Intercept and ensure the option to Display Residual Plots is checked:
- Click OK >>:
- Click the Mult Reg Residuals (1) tab:
- Scroll to the right and look for the Regular Residuals vs Predicted Values for: y dotplot:
- Expand the chart by dragging a corner away from the center:
